Rajiv Gandhi International Airport gets carbon neutrality status
The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport ,Hyderabad has received the carbon neutrality status by Airports Council International(ACI) for achieving Level 3+ neutrality status.
ACI has introduced the Carbon Accreditation programme in 2009 efforts to manage and reduce the carbon emissions. It comprises of 4 levels, Level1-Mapping. Level 2 – reduction, Level 3 – Optimisation and level 3 + - Neutrality.
About the Achievment:
- RGIA has achieved the Level 1 and 2 in 2012, level 3 in 2013 and level 4 in 2017 which is the highest accreditation.
- It is because of the sustainable environmental measures like proactive energy conservation measure, generation of renewable evergy 5 MW solar power plant, carbon sinking through extensive greenbelt and various other environment protection initiatives
- Also migrating to energy efficient LED lighting for the entire airport
