Nation declares 2017 as the International Year of sustainable Tourism for
Development.
The
United Nations 70th General Assembly has declared 2017 as the
International year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
The
International Year is to support a change in policies, business practices and
consumer behaviour towards a more sustainable tourism sector that contribute
sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)
This
is opportunity to raise awareness on the contribution of the tourism sector in
development among public and private sector to work together in making tourism
for positive change.
UNWTO
Secretary General Taleb Rifai,said that 2017 International Year of
Sustainable Tourism for Development represents a unique opportunity to increase
the contribution of tourism to the three pillars of sustainability, economic,
social and environmental, all in drawing attention to the true dimensions of a
sector that is often undervalued
