Center initiates river survey across the Ganga to create database of aquatic life
The central
Government has launched first ever river survey across the Ganga to determine
the population of Aquatic life, especially endangered Gangetic Dolphin.
NMCG (the
National Mission for Clean Ganga) has said that the survey is aimed to create a
baseline scientific data of aquatic life to help the agencies to take necessary
action for improving the quality of river water
NMCG said that
first part of the survey had been launched on March 1 between Narora to Bijnor
, Uttar Pradesh covering distance of 165 km and second schedule is between
Allahabad to Varanasi about 250 km expected to be launched this week
The Survey is
also figure out fish species composition in 2525 km long Ganga river has
also been launched from Harshil in Uttarakhand.
NMCG has conducting
the survey through Wildlife Institute of India, an autonomous institution of
Environment and Forest Ministry, under Namami Gange programme
